I Can Do District 9 All By Myself
In the US: Tyler Perry's dismally-reviewed I CAN DO BAD ALL BY MYSELF became another of those embarrassing #1 comedies the US like to have quite regularly, making $23.4m... adult-skewed CGI animation 9 debuted at #2 after a five-day opening on only 1,661 screens... SORORITY ROW grossed a lowly $5m from 2,665 screens... and WHITEOUT fared even worse with $4.9m from 2,745 screens, cementing it as Dark Castle's biggest flop ever...

In the UK: District 9 retained #1, thanks to strong word-of-mouth for this sci-fi action/drama... new release DORIAN GRAY managed #3 with £883,000 from 350 screens (pushed by an Orange Wednesdays promotion)... SORORITY ROW did surprisingly well, in at #4 with £782,000, which is relatively a better performance than its US opening... inevitably, JULIE & JULIA only took £540,000 because nobody in the UK knows the background to its story/characters, so it probably only got to #X on the back of Meryl Streep's involvement... ADVENTURELAND opened on 204 screens and took £210,000, edging it into #10, which is a shame for such a well-reviewed rom-com... and the poorly-reviewed WHITEOUT actually came in at #13 with a terrible £150,00 from 260 screens...
